TimberTech FAQs

How is TimberTech Decking different from traditional wood?

Composite and PVC decking are made from synthetic products that are inherently resistant to moisture, rot, and insect damage; it requires little maintenance and has a lifespan of 25-50 years. A real wood deck has a lifespan of 10-20 years. Wood is vulnerable to rot, moisture, and insect damage and requires ongoing maintenance such as resealing every few years. For more details on composite decking vs. wood decking, click here.

How do TimberTech’s deck fasteners work?

Hidden fasteners attach deck boards to the joist below without being visible on the top surface of the deck. TimberTech has two hidden fastener systems: screws hidden by matching composite plugs, or clips that fit into grooves along the sides of the boards.

What kind of railing and post options are available?

AZEK building products and TimberTech deck boards can be combined with any railing and post cap design. Classic Composite railing is available in white, black, and wood tones, with seven top rail profiles, matching post sleeves, and balusters in metal or composite. Aluminum railing is available from TimberTech’s Impression Rail collection in white, black, and bronze with four top rail profiles, and matching post sleeves and balusters. Glass channel kits are also available.

Are TimberTech’s colors realistic?

TimberTech produces the most realistic wood-look decking products available. The Vintage, Landmark, and Reserve collections offer wire-brushed surfaces for authentic wood texture.

Does TimberTech decking scratch easily?

All TimberTech deck boards are inherently scratch-resistant and engineered to retain their beautiful appearance for decades.

Can I replace wood deck boards with composite?

Wood deck boards can be replaced one-for-one with composite deck boards; just be aware you may need to add additional joists or support structures because composite deck boards are more flexible.

TimberTech Decking FAQs

What’s the difference between TimberTech’s decking lines?

TimberTech offers various decking lines using either composite or PVC materials tailored to different preferences and needs. For instance, their composite Legacy Collection features a hand-scraped texture for a rustic look, while the composite Terrain Collection offers a wood-grain texture. The PVC Vintage Collection is available in three widths to enable creative designs. Each line provides unique aesthetics, colors, price points, and performance attributes.

How long does TimberTech decking last?

TimberTech decking is engineered to last for decades, with a lifespan ranging from 25 to 50 years depending on the specific line. This durability is due to its composite construction, which resists rot, decay, and insect damage, ensuring a long-lasting and low-maintenance outdoor living space for homeowners to enjoy.

Is a composite or PVC deck worth the money?

Engineered decking materials are definitely worth the investment. The labor costs to build a deck will be similar whether you choose synthetic decking or wood. It makes sense to choose composite or PVC to avoid paying for construction again for 25-30 years.

What’s the difference between composite and PVC decking?

Composite decking is made from a blend of wood fibers and recycled plastic, offering a natural look with enhanced durability. PVC decking, on the other hand, is entirely synthetic, providing superior resistance to moisture and stains. Both options offer low-maintenance solutions, but PVC tends to be more expensive and longer lasting.

What is the warranty period for TimberTech decking products?

TimberTech decking products come with a warranty period between 25 and 50 years depending on the product line. This extensive warranty reflects TimberTech's commitment to quality and ensures long-lasting performance and peace of mind for homeowners.

Does TimberTech decking get hot in the sun?

Composite products like TimberTech Composite are engineered to reduce heat absorption and typically have a surface temperature similar to wood. PVC decking is less dense than wood or composite materials so it absorbs less heat. In a hot and sunny climate, lighter deck colors are best. Light gray, white, or beige decking in either composite or PVC will reflect sunlight and retain the least heat. Light colors in TimberTech Advanced PVC decking stay up to 30° F cooler to the touch than competitive products.

How do I clean TimberTech decking?

To clean TimberTech decking, start by removing debris with a broom or leaf blower. Then use a mild soap and water solution or a recommended deck cleaner with a soft-bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly with water and avoid abrasive cleaners or pressure washers to maintain the deck's integrity.

Where can I buy TimberTech Decking?
