Can I use a paint sample to paint my wall instead of ordering a full gallon of paint?

Although Benjamin Moore color samples are 100% real paint, it is not recommended for use to coat an entire room or wall, or to use as touch-up paint. 8oz. paint samples are formulated only to test colors and do not contain the performance-enhancing components found in Benjamin Moore's regular paints. As such, it does not come with color-lasting guarantees and may not hold up over time. Benjamin Moore's premium paint products like AURA, Regal Select, and ADVANCE contain a variety of performance formulas to fit different uses in the home, including ColorLock Technology, moisture resistance, and scuff resistance.

If your project requires less than a gallon of paint, we offer most Benjamin Moore paints in a quart to cover 85-100 square feet.

Can I sample both Interior Paints and Exterior Paints?

Yes, this paint sample can be used to test interior and exterior colors.

What's the best way to test a color sample on my wall?

When deciding on a paint color, interior designers and professional painters paint use a paint sample pint to create movable swatches of actual paint that show how interior paint colors change in their environment according to the lighting and time of day.

Paint color will appear a little different on every wall depending on a few details, including varying degrees of sunlight, proximity to artificial light, and even the direction a room faces. To ensure you like a paint color all around the room, observe paint swatches throughout the day to note how different types of natural and artificial light affect the undertones of the color, and how it looks next to trim, doors, and furnishings in the room.

If you are planning to use the color in more than one room, we recommend ordering all color options at once so you can test them simultaneously.

Painting samples directly on the wall will require extra prep work to cover all of the sampled areas, can create unsightly splotches throughout your home, and the color representation may be affected by the underlying wall color.

A favorite among designers and paint pros for its quality and breadth of color, Benjamin Moore paint is durable, splatter-resistant, easy to spread, and fast-drying. I'm Having Trouble Picking a Paint Color, What Should I Do?

A good place to start when choosing a paint color is to decide if you want a warm color or a cool color. Each color family contains different characteristics and evokes unique feelings which can help assist you in picking the best paint colors for your space.

Cool color families —such as greens, blues, aquas, and purple colors —tend to bring relaxation and a sense of calm to a room or space. They can also be used to create a sleek, modern environment. At the opposite end of the spectrum, warm colors, such as those in the red, orange, and yellow families, are typically used to create a cozy, comfortable environment and breathe energy and passion into a space.

Paint colors in the cool color family can make a smaller room feel larger, so they are often used in small bedrooms or bathrooms. Warm paint colors, on the other hand, tend to make a large space feel more inviting.

Commonly used spaces like the family room or a bathroom should have some color on the walls. This helps to hide any imperfections. If it's a less commonly used room, like the bedroom, you can go with a lighter color that has the potential to show some wear.
