General Finishes®, Water-Based Exterior 450 Clear Topcoat, Satin, Quart
General Finishes®, Exterior 450 Topcoat a clear-drying low VOC finish suitable for vertical exterior surfaces, such as fences, patio furniture, garage doors and entrance doors. It is not recommended as a deck finish. Exterior 450 is fortified with UV absorbers to stabilize and protect the integrity the finish*, and built-in mildewcides to slow mold and mildew growth. It performs well as a clear coat or as an optional topcoat over darker colors General Finishes Milk Paint. Do not use over light or white paints as yellowing may occur. *The UV additive in 450 Clear will protect the integrity of the film, but will not prevent the wood from changing color from sunlight. Application Conditions: Recommended 70°F and 50% humidity, out of direct sunlight. Variations in conditions and application technique can significantly affect dry times and coverage. Use GF Accelerator in cool or humid conditions. Use GF Extender in warm or dry conditions.
Surface Prep: Always ensure the surface is clean of contaminants and dust. Sanding any surface too smoothly can reduce adhesion and create application issues like orange peel.
Raw Wood: Sand with no finer than 220 grit. Ensure any freshly stained surface has dried thoroughly and completely.
Pre‐finished Wood: Clean using 50/50 mix of denatured alcohol and water with maroon non‐woven pad. Sand with fine (220‐320) foam sanding pad or maroon non‐woven pad.
Other Substrates: Can be used with proper priming and/or painting. Always test first.
Sanding Between Coats: Using fine (220‐320) foam sanding pad or gray non‐woven pad.
