DAP® HIGH HEAT FIRE RESISTANT MORTAR is a non-combustible silicate cement for applications in wood frame construction where an ASTM E136 non-combustible sealant is required, such as filling around vents, pipes, ducts and chimneys at ceiling and/or floor level prior to the application of drywall products. It has been tested in accordance with ASTM E136 and withstands temperatures up to 2000°F. It can also be used to patch chipped or cracked firebrick in fireplaces or wood-burning stoves. It adheres firmly to firebrick when wet or dry and sets rock hard when fired. Easy water clean-up. Interior use only.
Recommended For:
Use to tuck point between firebricks and to repair cracked fire bricks
Use to fill interior openings around vents, pipes, ducts, chimneys and fireplaces at ceiling and/or floor level in non-rated wood frame, one and two family dwellings where non-combustible filler compound is specified.
Installation of firestop, fireblock, and/or draftstop construction requires adherence to specific building codes interpreted at the local level. Consult your local building inspector prior to the application of an ASTM E136 product for these purposes.
Draft, smoke, fireblock sealant for applications in wood-frame construction where an ASTM E136 non-combustible sealant is required
For repairing small chips or cracked fire brick, re-pointing mortar joints between fire bricks and bonding fire bricks together in fireboxes in fireplaces and wood burning stoves
Surface Preparation: Prepare the application area by cleaning and removing crumbling brick, mortar, soot, debris & foreign material from the area to be repaired. For best adhesion, thoroughly dampen the surface with a brush and water before application.
Product Application:

Cut nozzle tip at an angle to an opening not less than 1/4” x 1/8”.
Load cartridge into caulk gun.
Fill penetrations, voids, cracks or holes with the mortar.
Clean up excess wet mortar from surfaces & tools with a damp cloth. Clean skin with soap and water. Excess dried mortar must be cut or scraped away.
For Fire Brick Repair in Fireplaces & Wood-Burning Stoves Only:
After applying, smooth mortar with a putty knife dipped in water.
Protect the new mortar from direct water contact until fire-cured.
Air dry for 24 hours, but no longer than 30 days. Allow 24 hours to cure between layers. When tack free, heat for final cure.
To heat cure, start a small, low burning fire, keeping the heat below 220°F, until product dries (approximately 1 hour).
Increase heat gradually to 500°F to harden the mortar (for another 1 to 2 hours).
Clean Up: Clean up excess wet mortar with a damp sponge before it skins over. Excess dried mortar must be cut or scraped away. Clean hands and tools with warm water and soap. Store container in a cool, dry place away from heat or cold. Store upside down.
