As of April 22, 2010, in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, contractors disturbing paint on pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities must assign at least one Certified Renovator to the job and that person must take refresher training at least every 5 years to stay current. Companies must also be registered as a Lead Safe Certified Firm with the EPA. Individuals and firms that are not in compliance could face fines of up to $37,500 per day. This course…

This EPA Law Applies to Interior and Exterior Renovations Few will argue that lead is toxic and that dust from sanding, cutting, or otherwise disturbing lead paint can cause health problems both for children coming in contact with it and for workers involved in renovating older housing.  Most professional contractors are aware of the hazards and take appropriate precautions.  Beginning in 2010, federal law began requiring contractors to be trained and certified under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2008 Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program.…
